On 26th May, the Association of Progressive Jurists (CHD) in Antalya, along with the Human Rights Association (IHD) and the lawyers association ÖHD made a statement in front of the Courthouse regarding the “rights violations in well-type prisons”.
In her statement, the CHD executive, lawyer Irmak Yaman drew attention to the critical situation of the prisoners, who have been on hunger strike against the well-type isolation prisons.
She stated: “Sercan Ahmet Arslan, who was transferred from Buca High Security Prison, is on hunger strike for 219 days for the transfer of his friend; Serkan Onur Yılmaz, who is held in Antalya High Security Prison has been on hunger strike for 197 days and Ayberk Demirdöğen for 77 days.
Yılmaz has to attend meetings in a wheelchair due to serious weight loss and balance problems. Bakican Işık has been on hunger strike for 158 days and his mother Yurdagül Gümüş for 144 days in Sincan High Security Prison No. 2. Gümüş’s health condition is deteriorating. In the same prison, Mithat Öztürk has been on hunger strike for 102 days, and Grup Yorum members Ali Aracı and Ali Hasan Akgül for 97 days. Fikret Akar, who is in Çorlu Karatepe High Security Prison, has been on hunger strike for 57 days.”
