The following update was given on the 2nd of July regarding the state of health of political prisoner Mauricio Hernández Norambuena in Chile, who was a fighter against fascism during the military junta of Pinochet.
Public statement
Today, July 2nd, regarding the state of health of our brother Mauricio Hernández Norambuena, we inform that to date it has not yet been possible to establish a clear diagnosis, which gives an answer to the generation of the symptoms that persist. At the moment, tests are still being carried out as indicated by Mauricio’s treating physicians, who represent the family, and by the medical staff of the prison hospital itself.

We are grateful for the national and international solidarity and concern for our brother, especially to those who today gathered and demonstrated in front of the Gendarmería in Valparaíso and in front of the penitentiary in Santiago.
Undoubtedly, Mauricio’s current state of health is largely a consequence of the decades he has spent in prisons where he has been physically and psychologically mistreated, we have seen in recent weeks his fragility and the risk of his permanence under a prison regime that is unjust and disproportionate to his 67 years of age.
Today, more than ever, we believe that it is in all justice and humanity to demand his freedom.
We continue to be on alert about his health situation and will keep you informed about his evolution and the solidarity actions that may be required, in which we hope you will join us.
Hernández Norambuena Family,
