A file was submitted to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) against pit-type prisons

On the third day of the vigil in front of the UN building in Geneva, a file documenting serious human rights violations in Turkish prisons was submitted to OHCHR.

The vigil started in front of the UN building in Geneva, Switzerland, is continuing into its third day. The protest was organised by the Basel Boran Cultural Centre and the Swiss People’s Front.

The protesters submitted a dossier documenting the isolation and torture of political prisoners in Turkish prisons to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

Şükriye Akar, wife of hunger striker Fikret Akar, said, “Isolation and rights violations are clear violations of international law. The UN’s silence legitimises this oppression.” Pointing out that her husband and nine other prisoners who are continuing their resistance have reached a critical stage in their hunger strike, Şükriye Akar said that the prisoners are being deprived of their most basic human needs.
