In Athens, members of the People’s Front Greece continue with regular protests in front of the Turkish embassy.
On September 12, another rally was held against the S, R and Y type prisons.
In a statement that was read during the action, the death fast resistance of Serkan Onur Yilmaz was explained in Turkish, Greek and English language.
Maria Karatza, who was on a hunger strike for 15 days, announced that she would suspend her open hunger strike by that day.
Ali Yücel, a member of People’s Front Greece, who also held a hunger strike for 15 days, announced that he will continue this action in support of the revolutionary prisoners on indefinite hunger strike/death fast in Turkey with an indefinite hunger strike.
Following statement was read: “Revolutionary prisoners in Turkey began resisgtance against the isolation cells of types S, R and Y in March 2023.
SRY-type prisons are centers of torture. These are prisons opened by the state to further deepen the isolation it established with F-type cells. Sunlight is forbidden in S, R, and Y-type prisons. Prisoners are separated from their comrades. The prison architecture is designed in such a way that prisoners cannot see the sun. When they look out the window, they cannot see the sky. No one inside can see each other. Prisoners are held in strict isolation under 24-hour camera surveillance. There is no ventilation in the cells. There is no yard for the prisoners. Only those with permission from the administration and those who are considered “good” are allowed to use the yard for one hour a day.
They want to force prisoners to surrender by deepening isolation. The ban on sun, rain, and air, and the refusal to release prisoners, are all part of this ideological and political attack. The state is trying to sever prisoners from their comrades and their organizations this way. Its goal is to isolate them from life and drive them insane. At the same time, imprisonment is used as a tool of intimidation.
Isolation is Torture, End isolation!
Shut down the pit-type prisons!
Down with Fascism, Long Live Our Struggle!”
There were also shouted slogans like “We are the people, we are right, we will win”.
