APPEAL FOR THE 1st ANNIVERSARY OF SERKAN ONUR YILMAZ’ DEATH FAST RESISTANCE:
10 November 2025 marks the first anniversary of Serkan Onur Yilmaz’s hunger strike, which later turned into a death fast. Serkan Onur Yilmaz is a political prisoner in Turkey, who was transfered to the isolation cells of the new high security prison in Antalya. He won his resistance and was transferred, but his 8 comrades weren’t. So he decided to continue the fight for his comrades in isolation.
For one year, 365 days, he has been resisting the unlawful and inhumane conditions of isolation imposed on prisoners in the cells of high-security prisons of types S and Y. Political prisoners in turkey have been fighting continuously for over two years against their transfer to these torture prisons. Around 20 prisoners were able to get their demand to be moved to more humane prisons met before they reached 200 days of hunger strike, which is a life-threatening situation.
The situation is different for Serkan Onur Yilmaz, Ayberk Demirdögen (on a death fast for 240 days) and Fikret Akar (on an indefinite hunger strike for 221 days).
The judicial authorities of the Turkish government refuse to comply with their just demands and are intent on letting them die in agony.
This prison model must be publicly exposed, combated and abolished in order to prevent further human rights violations through isolation torture, deprivation of all social and human contact, and intolerable prison conditions due to insufficient fresh air, sunlight and physical activity, all of which lead to physical and mental illness.
