INTERNATIONAL SOLIDARITY FOR POLITICAL PRISONERS (IS4PP)

Phone record from Fikret Akar on November 15 – Day 231 of Hungerstrike

“My morale is very high. I’m feeling very strong.”

This is the spirit of resistance. The political prisoner in Turkey, Fikret Akar, had his latest phone conversation with his wife, Sukriye Akar, on the 15th of November, the 231st day of his indefinite hunger strike against systematic isolation prisons. Fikret Akar is imprisoned in a High Security Prison of the Turkish town Corlu, which is one of the new, “secret” isolation dungeons called pit-types in the country.

Fikret’s political prosecution is continuing. His next trial is scheduled for 7th December and he will hopefully survive until this date!

For 2 years it can be observed that persons with politically opposed ideas, who insist in popular resistance to a system full of injustices and violence, are transfered to these prison types (sometimes categorized as S or Y types).

For 2 years around 20 political prisoners resist to these unlivable places, which are cold, inhuman and destructive. They see no other option: The only way to let their voices heard outside and to put an end to this cruel, being isolated for 23 hours a day in a small unhygienic cell, deprived from human beings, and even every kind of human sense, is their uprising with their bodies. They revolt with HUNGER over many months, and even seasons to demand: STOP ISOLATION TORTURE – GET US OUT OF THESE PIT-TYPE PRISONS!

You can listen and read the content of a phone conversation of a political prisoner on DAY 231 of his HUNGER RESISTANCE. He is weak, he’s got serious health problems, but his moral is high, his belief in victory is absolutely certain.

If you read and see this, please don’t hesitate to join the campaign to defend the prisoners on hungerstrike. Defend the demands and life of Fikret Akar and all others on hungerstrike, especially those on death fast whose situation has become even more critical: Serkan Onur Yilmaz and Ayberk Demirdögen!

Mention the hungerstrikers and support their demands to “Close the Pit-Type Isolation prisons and urgently transfer the prisoners on hunger strike to other prisons without permanent isolation, which violate international law and human rights standards.”
