On November 13, Secoure Rouge Toulouse (Toulouse Red Aid) organized a panel on prisons and resistance in Turkey.
Despite being held on a weekday, this panel in southern France attracted a lot of interest.
Şükriye Akar from Anti Imperialist France and in the time wife of hunger striker Fikret Akar, participated as a speaker.
She explained why the Pit Types were built, why prisoners went on indefinite hunger strikes and death fasts, the architectural structure of the Pit Types, why they wanted to be transferred to F Types, and why they chose hunger strikes as a method of resistance.
She explained everything there is to say about the Pit Types and the resistance.
After the panel, the audience said pit tpye became more concrete for them and that they could now clearly imagine why they were resisting and what the Pit Types were like.
After Şükriye Akar, a young person from Young Struggle Paris gave a 6-minute video presentation in French.
Although the panel was held on a workday, 45 people attended.
Most of them were young university students. They listened to the panel with great interest.
After the panel, they took a group photo together with the label Devrimci Tutsaklara Özgürluk” (Freedom for revolutionary prisoners).
At the end of the panel, an announcement was made that Ayten Öztürk’s book was on sale.
It was clear that this announcement worked, as at least five books were sold immediately.
After the panel, postcards were written to the hunger strikers.
Şükriye Akar helped the young people, most of whom were French, write the cards and gave them ideas on what to write.
