INTERNATIONAL SOLIDARITY FOR POLITICAL PRISONERS (IS4PP)

The voices of prisoners in Turkey were heard in Bilbao

On 16 January, Butza organised a panel discussion in Bilbao, in  the Basque Country, on the subject of political prisoners.
Two speakers were invited.

First to speak was the spokesperson for Tinko, an independent anti-repression organisation that aims to achieve full amnesty.

She spoke first. In her speech, she assessed the anti-terrorism law and its impact on the trial and society.
The other was Şükriye Akar, also a representative of AIF France, whose husband ended his resistance victoriously after a 250-day indefinite hunger strike.

Tinko represents the group of political prisoners who abandoned the EPPK and did not accept the process of surrender.

Then Şükriye Akar took the floor. In her PowerPoint presentation, she explained the pit types of prisons in Turkey, their ideological meaning, their architectural features, and their effect on prisoners.
She mentioned the ongoing indefinite hunger strikes against them. She emphasised that all resistances against these types of prisons has been successful to date. She stated that the resistance of the Free Prisoners also gave hope to the people.
She introduced the five prisoners who are still on indefinite hunger strike and called on people to write cards and letters to them.
At the end of the panel, this call was followed and people were asking, whether they could write in English, whether they could send pictures, and whether there was any restruction.

Following the panel, Zehra Kurtay, whose resistance is closely followed in the Basque Country, was not forgotten.
A group photo was taken to support the 200th day of the indefinite hunger strike, which will be on Saturday, 17 January.
