English translation of the solidarity announcement:

THE “PIT” TYPE CELLS IN TURKEY SHOULD BE ABOLISHED! – VICTORY TO THE HUNGER STRIKERS – FREEDOM TO THE IMPRISONED FIGHTERS!

We denounce the imprisonment of Turkish and Kurdish militants by the anti-popular and reactionary regime of Erdogan, as well as their isolation in the “pit” type cells (Kuyu), which the regime has been using since 2020, following the “F-type” prisons. These are cells of complete isolation, measuring 4×5 meters, without natural light or air, with a window covered with wire mesh, in which prisoners are condemned to spend 23 hours a day. In addition, they are constantly “harassed,” their sleep is disturbed, and they are tortured and beaten by the guards.

There, activists and revolutionaries who “dare” to promote resistance to fascism and imperialism are imprisoned, as well as progressive artists from Grup Yorum and the Idil Cultural Center. The political prisoners themselves have begun a fierce struggle for their abolition, with hunger strikes lasting many days, which have often reached critical points. Thirty-eight hunger strikers won their removal from these cells, while six are still continuing.

We oppose the policy of fascism of public life that the local bourgeoisie follows in our country as well. State terrorism, repression, restriction of people’s freedoms and, even more, imprisonment, torture and all kinds of fascist measures, reveal precisely the fear of the bourgeois classes towards the peoples, the working class and the youth, towards the movement, their resistances and demands.

The ruling classes in Greece and Turkey, dependent on imperialism, while in conflict, tension, and competition with each other and promoting nationalism and chauvinistic rhetoric, are cooperating against the peoples and activists. This is done with the assistance of their “big bosses” in the US, NATO, and the EU. This is evident in the criminalization of Turkish and Kurdish political refugees in our country and the questioning of their political asylum.

The popular movement in Greece stands in solidarity with Turkish and Kurdish activists!

Free All Political Prisoners!

Close the “pit” type cells now!

The people of Greece and Turkey united against war and fascism!

Long live the friendship and solidarity of the peoples of Greece, Cyprus, Turkey, and Kurdistan!
