Prisoners on hunger strike in solidarity with María José Baños

Anti-fascist political prisoners in A Lama prison begin hunger strike in solidarity with María José Baños

The political prisoners in A Lama are beginning a hunger strike today, Friday 20 February, one day a week, demanding the release of María José Baños. From next week onwards, they will do so on Tuesdays. We attach the statement written by the prisoners in A Lama.

“In view of the deteriorating health of GRAPO political prisoner María José Baños Andujar, who is being held in Murcia II prison, and the policy of extermination being applied against her by the self-proclaimed ‘most progressive government in history’ of Pedro Sánchez and Yolanda Díaz, the political prisoners of the PCE (r) and GRAPO who are in A Lama prison (Pontevedra) have decided to hold a day of fasting every Tuesday, as a first step in denouncing the situation to which their comrade is being subjected.

If she remains in prison, María José’s health will continue to deteriorate, as she is already in a critical condition with a real risk of death, despite medical reports recommending her immediate release, which is a circumstance covered by the fascist regime’s own laws. The government is once again showing its true anti-worker character, contrary to the interests of the people. Through the prison authorities, it is engaging in explicit blackmail: if María José renounces her anti-fascist principles and convictions by signing a statement of repentance, they will let her live; if not, they will cause her death in prison. Once again, María José has demonstrated her dignity and revolutionary commitment by refusing to accept this criminal blackmail.

WE CANNOT LET THEM KILL HER!

IMMEDIATE FREEDOM FOR MARIA JOSE BAÑOS ANDUJAR!”
