Campaign for Irish Republican Prisoner Niall Sheerin

The Irish Republican Prisoners Welfare Association (IRPWA) has launched a national campaign calling for the immediate release of Irish Republican Prisoner Niall Sheerin.

 Niall Sheerin has served every single day of the sentence imposed upon him by a British court.

“Yet, in a blatant act of state-sponsored kidnapping, he remains caged within the walls of Maghaberry Gaol. This is not a “detention”, it is internment by another name.

The continued imprisonment of a man who has completed his sentence is a draconian decision based on British policy in Ireland. It is a calculated assault on the basic tenets of justice and due process. By holding Niall beyond his court-mandated release date, the British state has abandoned even the pretense of “fairness,” opting instead to use the prison system as a tool for political suppression while inflicting deliberate hardship on Niall’s family and community.

The IRPWA stands in unyielding solidarity with Niall Sheerin. We refuse to remain silent while the British state ignores its own laws to keep a Republican Prisoner behind bars. No prisoner should spend a single second in a cell once their sentence has expired.

 This is not an administrative error; it is a politically driven injustice. It is punitive, it is illegal, and it will not be accepted.

 The time for excuses is over. End Internment. Bring Niall Sheerin home to his family where he belongs.”
