INTERNATIONAL SOLIDARITY FOR POLITICAL PRISONERS (IS4PP)

The one-day solidarity hunger strike continues on a weekly basis.

On Saturday 11 April, a large number of people from various countries, including Greece, Belgium, Austria, France, Germany and Great Britain, took part in a one-day solidarity hunger strike in support of political prisoners in Turkey.

As of today, Tahsin Sagaltici and Gürkan Türkoglu have been on an indefinite hunger strike for 258 days, and Hüseyin Özen for 238 days.

They demand to be transferred to a prison that is not a pit-like isolation facility. They are currently being held at Antalya’s High Security Prison, where they are being subjected to systematic torture through isolation. In the past, dozens of prisoners have met their demands through hunger strikes or even death fasts.

They are fighting against the inhuman isolation conditions in type S, R and Y prisons (officially described as high-security prisons), where prisoners are deprived of sunlight, fresh air and any social or human contact for several years.

This type of prison constitutes a serious violation of human rights and international law.

Therefore, the international campaign to raise awareness of the resistance to their closure and to stop the transfer of political prisoners to these punishment facilities has been ongoing for over a year, and will continue to defend the lives of those who are still being held there.
