INTERNATIONAL SOLIDARITY FOR POLITICAL PRISONERS (IS4PP)

Do you want the Justice Ministry listen to the demand of the prisoners?

If you want to raise your voice for the 10 political prisoners in Turkey, some of whom have been on hunger strike for more than 200 days and have reached a very critical stage, please appeal to the Minister of Justice of Turkey to urgently accept their demands. You will also be supporting hundreds of other political prisoners who are being persecuted for their political beliefs and activities in the struggle for democracy and justice and who are also threatened with transfer to completely deserted and pit-like prisons without any legal basis.

WHY IT’S URGENT TO TAKE ACTION?

New prison types, known as S and Y type and High Security Prisons, in which prisoners are systematically isolated and subjected to restrictive measures, are now on the agenda on an almost daily basis. As a result, long-term hunger strikes have been taking place for around three years, with prisoners demanding to be transferred back to other prisons without permanent isolation measures. Ten prisoners are currently on an indefinite hunger strike and the health of some prisoners is already life-threatening.

In particular, the conditions of Ahmet Sercan Arslan, who has been on hunger strike for nearly 230 days in Kırıklar F Type Prison No 1 in Izmir, and Yurdagül Gümüş, who has been on hunger strike for more than 150 days in Marmara Closed Prison, are life-threatening.

Ahmet Sercan Arslan has demanded that the seriously ill prisoner Ufuk Keskin be transferred from isolation in Sincan High Security Prison No. 1 to a prison with normal, non-restrictive conditions.

So, it’s immportant to raise voice wherever possible and to call upon the authorities in Turkey to meet the just demands of the detainees as quick as possible and to stop the forced transfers to these isolation prisons, which are far from humanity and the rule of law.

For this purpose we prepared sample letters to be addressed to the Ministry of Justice in Turkey:

To the Ministry of Justice in Turkey
Justice Minister, Mr. Yilmaz Tunc

Dear Mr. Tunc,

I write this letter to express my deepest concern regarding the “living” conditions for inmates of the new prison types S and Y in your country as well as in “High Security Prisons”.
These so-called high security prisons, in which prisoners are systematically isolated and subjected to restrictive measures, are now on the agenda on an almost daily basis.

As a result, many prisoners have been on prolonged hunger strike for three years and their health conditions have started to deteriorate, with 10 prisoners on indefinite hunger strike today.

I call on you to meet the just demands of the detainees and to stop the forced transfers to these isolation prisons, which are far from humanity and the rule of law.

I strongly oppose the unlawful transfer of political prisoners to these prisons, where no human being can live, and I call on you to stop this practice.
I also call on you to fulfil your responsibility for the life and integrity of the detainees. We have no more time to lose.

Yours sincerely

An das Justizministerium der Türkei
Justizminister, Hr. Yilmaz Tunc

Sehr geehrte Herr Tunc,

Şu anda on tutuklu süresiz açlık grevinde ve bazı tutukluların sağlık durumları hayati tehlikeye girmiş durumda.
Özellikle, 230 güne yaklaşan açlık grevi eylemi ile İzmir’deki Kırıklar 1 No’lu F Tipi Hapishanesi’nde bulunan Ahmet Sercan Arslan’ın ve 150 günü aşan açlık grevi eylemi ile Marmara Kapalı Hapishanesi’nde bulunan Yurdagül Gümüş’ün durumu hayati tehlike arz etmektedir.
Ahmet Sercan Arslan, ağır hasta tutsak Ufuk Keskin’in Sincan 1 No’lu Yüksek Güvenlikli Ceza İnfaz Kurumu’ndaki tecritten çıkarılarak kısıtlayıcı olmayan normal koşullara sahip bir hapishaneye sevk edilmesi yönünde talebini iletmiştir.
