THE REVOLUTIONARY FROM TURKEY ILKER ALCAN, ARRESTED NEAR HIS HOME IN THE REGION OF KALAMOS, ATTICA, GREECE AND IMPRISONED IN KORYDALLOS
Ilker Alcan was arrested on 5 June in Kalamos, Attica, outside his home and imprisoned in Korydallos Prison. He is a revolutionary who has been fighting against fascism in Turkey for many years. Alcan, who has been fighting since his childhood, was arrested during the 1980s junta and imprisoned in jails for many years. After his release from prison, he wrote in the newspapers “New Solution”, ‘Struggle’ and “Liberation”.
His sister, the revolutionary Nilüfer Alcan, murdered in the prison massacre in Turkey on 19 December 2000, was one of the six women political prisoners who were burned alive in prison. Ilker Alcan, as a political refugee in France, continued his revolutionary activities , for which he was arrested by the French police and eventually sentenced to 7 years in prison.
He was in Greece and France issued an arrest warrant and an extradition case will be heard on the basis of this decision. He is currently imprisoned in Korydallos prison. We call on all of you, comrades, groups, collectives, organisations, to stand in solidarity with Ilker Alcan.
