We call the authorities to stop the measure of force feeding torture and to immediately fulfill the demands of the above mentioned prisoners to be transfered to another prison, which is not a pit-like prison and to end the arbitrary punishment of strict isolation torture against them.

Article of the daily newspaper Birgün about the threat of forced medical intervention:

Forced intervention against prisoners on hunger strike

It has emerged that three prisoners held at Antalya High-Security Prison, who have been on hunger strike for over 200 days demanding the closure of pit-type prisons, were taken to hospital against their will. The prisoners’ relatives have warned that such forced intervention could be fatal.

Altun Özen, the sister of Hüseyin Özen, who is on his 242nd day of a Hunger Strike, highlighted that forced intervention could be fatal.

Özen said, “My brother is on hunger strike demanding the closure of pit-type prisons and his transfer to a prison closer to his family and with humane conditions. He currently has wounds on his body and has begun to experience speech difficulties. However, despite his refusal of treatment, he was forcibly taken to Antalya City Hospital for intervention.”

‘THE FORCED INTERVENTION SHOULD BE STOPPED, THEIR DEMANDS SHOULD BE ACCEPTED’

Özen, noting that she had not spoken to her brother, said: “We do not know whether intervention has taken place or not. We have appealed to all relevant authorities for their demands to be met, but we have not achieved any results. They were taken to hospital on Friday and we are currently unable to speak to them; we do not know what condition they are in. We want this forced intervention to stop and for their demands to be met.”

Özen stated that if the use of forced intervention continues, the sick prisoners held at Antalya High-Security Prison will also begin an indefinite hunger strike.
