INTERNATIONAL SOLIDARITY FOR POLITICAL PRISONERS (IS4PP)

Force Feeding Crime at Antalya City Hospital

Urgent!

Despite many warnings and calls from hundreds of people in different countries, the Turkish authorities, under the new Justice Minister, Akin Gürlek — notorious for his politically motivated investigations against opposition forces when he was Istanbul Chief Prosecutor — committed the crime of forcing medical intervention on a prisoner on hunger strike.

The simple demand of the hunger strikers for far over 200 days was to be transfered to a prison with human conditions. They prefered a measure which is accepted as torture by international medical rules, instead of respecting their human rights. We strongly condemn this crime and repeat our support for the prisoners who are on hunger strike against the isolation torture regime of S, R and Y High Security Prisons.

News from People’s Law Office about Forced Intervention to Hunger strike resister:

Gürkan Türkoglu

It has been learned that Gürkan Türkoğlu, one of the free prisoners on an indefinite hunger strike against pit-type prisons, has lost consciousness and been subjected to forced medical intervention. Furthermore, it was reported that Tahsin Sağaltıcı and Hüseyin Özen have ceased their intake of water and sugar, and information has been provided indicating that they will also face forced intervention.

AKP fascism forced feeded Gürkan Türkoğlu!

Forced feeding is a torture!

Actual news from the lawyer:

“I’m at the hospital right now. I had regular lawyer consultations with Hüseyin Özen and Tahsin Sağaltıcı. Hüseyin Özen’s condition is fine, progressing normally, but Tahsin’s condition is very bad. They cut off water and sugar this morning. Neither of them knows about Gürkan’s condition; they asked, and I said he was fine, not wanting to tell them. Afterwards, I went up to the intensive care unit with Gürkan’s mother. We spoke with Gürkan and the doctor and his assistants who performed the intervention. The doctor said that this was the first time something like this had happened to him and that he didn’t know exactly what the legal procedure was or what to do. He said that the intervention was performed after Gürkan lost consciousness and that he was using a B vitamin complex. He also said they gave him electrodes to help him regain consciousness. I didn’t ask anything about glucose myself; I just asked how this process would work. Now that Gürkan has regained consciousness, they’re going to take him downstairs again, but they will continue interventions as his consciousness fades. I saw Gürkan; he was handcuffed to the bed, and his other hand was tied to the bed. He was very weak because he was tearing off those things on his body. He was conscious, but he could barely speak and understand; he was in a bad condition.
