Around 40 victories were achieved in Turkey’s pit-like isolation prisons. These ‘high security’ prisons, of types S and Y, are places without fresh air, sunlight or human contact. They were constructed to punish the individual it considers as a threat, that is political prisoners, by keeping them in total isolation in architecture that makes them feel as if they have been thrown into a pit, unable to see another human face for the time remaining there (several years).
Although the latest resistance in the prison in Antalya has been successful, the life of one of the hunger strikers, Gürkan Türkoglu, is still at risk.
He has been intubated in the intensive care unit at Antalya City Hospital for several days, and we are waiting for news from there.
Political prisoners in other non-pit-like prisons continue to resist 24/7 camera surveillance and ID badges, which they see as an attack on their honour.

Tugcenur Özbay

On 29 January 2026, she began an indefinite hunger strike in protest against the compulsory wearing of ID badges; she is now on the 99th day of her resistance. Her weight has already dropped to less than 46 kilos.
On May 8, Tugcenur’s hungerstrike will reach its 100th day.
Around this significant day, together with people in different countries, we will raise our solidarity to say: Tugcenur’s demands must be met! Prisoner ID badges that declare political prisoners as guilty are unacceptable!
