Political Prisoner Özgül Emre on Hunger strike

On May 6, 2026, the appeal against the verdict in the case of Özgül Emre and İhsan Cibelik was dismissed. The verdict is now final. Despite a promised transfer to a different detention facility, this has not been carried out. In Cologne-Ossendorf, her personal clothing was confiscated—as a result, Özgül Emre began a hunger strike on May 7.

The prison doctor is refusing to administer vitamin B1 and sugar;
salt and sugar were subsequently provided in an unclear form.
This jeopardizes her medical care. It can lead to serious health complications.

WHY RESTRAINT GARMENTS?

Restraint garments stigmatize and dehumanize.
An alleged risk of escape does not justify this measure: Özgül Emre has been in custody since May 18, 2022, and has never attempted to escape.
Promises to change her place of detention have not been kept.

Our demands:
-Immediate return of clothing or provision of appropriate clothing.
-Guaranteed access to medical care (including vitamin B1 and necessary nutrients).
-Compliance with commitments made and transparent communication from the detention center.

What you can do:
-Contact local representatives and human rights organizations.
-Show solidarity at protests, rallies, and on social media.
-Demand: Respect for human dignity — no forced clothing!
Quote (adapted):
“For every victory against repression, no matter how small, strengthens the political balance of power on our side and also has an impact on other prisoners.”

Solidarity is a weapon.
Özgül Emre’s demands must be met.
