From Prosfygika to Gürkan

We are sharing a translation of the message sent by Prosfygika—which achieved victory through a hunger strike to defend life in the Prosfygika Occupied Houses in Greece—following the martyrdom of Gürkan Türkoğlu from Prosfygika.

For Comrade Gürkan Türkoğlu, who was subjected to torture through forced intervention following a 267-day hunger strike against the S-R-Y maximum-security prisons, and who was martyred by the Fascist State on July 5, 2026, at a hospital in Antalya.

Comrade Gürkan,

For those who struggle,

there is no greater honor than marching side by side with comrades like you.

And we, those on the other side of the border,

can proudly say

that we marched alongside you;

on the path of your dignity,

the defense of life,

and your belief in justice.

Our comrade,

we know that struggles

and the people who shoulder them

will always find each other.

In the hunger strikes on both sides of the border,

it was not only our steps

but also our hearts that came together.

In you

and in our comrades;

today, yesterday, and tomorrow,

every resister on a hunger strike to the death

deserves nothing but honor and pride.

We can only pledge

to new struggles, new victories.

No matter how great the cost,

even though you are not here now,

even though you cannot personally celebrate your own victory—

still, comrade!

and we are certain of this—

your victory is being celebrated

by thousands of people in every corner of the planet.

Wherever even the slightest spark of resistance flares up,

your name will echo,

your smile will shine,

and your fist raised in the air,

appearing among thousands of other fists,

will show the way.

And we,

will carry your name, your struggle, and your victory

to those who come after us.

We will continue walking the same path.

And we will proudly proclaim:

The murderers will pay the price.

Our people will prevail.
