Solidarity among political prisoners in the Basque Country

The following statement was released a few days ago by Basque political prisoners in support of another political prisoner on strike:

22 June 2026

Basque political prisoner Oskar Barreras has been held in solitary confinement in Basauri for seven weeks for refusing to double-bunk his cell. To protest this situation, he began a communication and yard strike five weeks ago.
As well as sending our political solidarity to Oskar, we would like to denounce the oppressive attitude of the Basauri prison management, as it is clear that we are facing another case of repression against Basque political prisoners. Oskar is being punished for defending his rights and we want to proclaim that his struggle has complete legitimacy.
For this reason, today we will refuse the prison food and we encourage people to denounce Oskar’s situation and to support the struggle he is carrying on.
