The Prisoners, Martyrs and Wounded Affairs Office of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) warned in a press statement issued today, Tuesday, of the critical health condition of imprisoned leader Hassan Salameh inside Israeli occupation prisons.
The statement explained, citing family sources, that Salameh is suffering from serious health complications as a result of being shot nine times by Israeli prison guards, who fired directly at him from close range on 15 September last year. It noted that these latest developments are part of an ongoing series of violations and assaults against Palestinian prisoners.
The Popular Front held the Israeli occupation authorities fully responsible for Salameh’s life and physical well-being, warning of the dangers posed by the policy of deliberate medical neglect and systematic physical assaults inside the prisons.
The Front called on international and human rights organisations, foremost among them the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), to take urgent action and intervene immediately to assess prisoner Salameh’s health condition and ensure that he receives the necessary medical care.
The statement also warned that continued international silence over violations against prisoners encourages the occupation authorities to further escalate their abuses. It called on national forces, human rights organisations and media institutions to step up popular and media campaigns to bring the prisoners’ plight to public attention and ensure their protection.
