AFTER 42 YEARS IN PRISON, ALİ OSMAN KÖSE DEVELOPED LUNG CANCER UNDER FASCISM’S POLICY OF ISOLATION!
AKP FASCISM, WITH ALL ITS INSTITUTIONS, AND THE DOCTORS OF TEKİRDAĞ F-TYPE PRISON ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALİ OSMAN KÖSE DEVELOPING CANCER!
HIS DIAGNOSIS WAS CONCEALED, HIS TREATMENT WAS OBSTRUCTED, HIS RIGHT TO RELEASE WAS DENIED. HE WAS TOLD: “DIE IN PRISON!”
WHEN THEY COULD NOT FORCE HIM INTO SUBMISSION THROUGH ISOLATION IN PRISON, THEY SOUGHT TO KILL HIM BY CAUSING HIM TO DEVELOP CANCER!
WE WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO KILL ALİ OSMAN KÖSE!
WE WANT ALİ OSMAN KÖSE’S FREEDOM, NOT HIS COFFIN!
RELEASE SERIOUSLY ILL PRISONER ALİ OSMAN KÖSE IMMEDIATELY!
Ali Osman Köse, aged 68, is a Free Prisoner who was tried in connection with the action to punish former Minister of Justice Mehmet Topaç, during which the founding of the DHKP-C was announced, and was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment.
Throughout his total of 42 years of imprisonment, he has remained on the path of resistance. He is a Free Prisoner who has resisted attempts to force him into submission through isolation and illness.
His wife, Fatma Tokay Köse, was a revolutionary who became a martyr during the death fast resistance against the F-Type prison assault.
Fascism cannot tolerate Ali Osman Köse because of his revolutionary history. This is why the authorities refuse to release him, even in violation of their own laws, and obstruct his medical treatment.
All of Ali Osman Köse’s illnesses developed under the isolation conditions imposed by fascism. He was made ill through the denial of his right to medical treatment, and the progression of his illnesses was deliberately enabled.
Fascism and its torturer doctors are responsible.
The history of how Ali Osman Köse came to be diagnosed with lung cancer is also the history of fascism’s assault through isolation.
KIDNEY CANCER
When Ali Osman Köse was detained in 1994, he developed kidney problems as a result of torture inflicted by the “Revolutionary Left Squad” at the Deep Investigation Laboratory (DAL) of the Ankara Police Headquarters.
In particular, his kidneys were repeatedly and forcefully squeezed, and he was subjected to torture involving ice and extreme cold.
Because of the damage caused to his kidneys by torture, he was told:
“You will die within six months.”
He suffered repeated kidney crises and had to take medication.
As a result of this systematic assault, Ali Osman Köse was eventually diagnosed with kidney cancer.
His left kidney was surgically removed.
HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE
In 1997, while in prison, his comrades measured his blood pressure and discovered that he was suffering from hypertension.
Following the massacre of 19–22 December 2000, when prisoners were transferred to F-Type prisons under torture, he was denied his blood pressure medication.
The authorities continued to withhold medication that he needed to take regularly, using his illnesses as another means of intimidation and forcing him into submission.
In 2002, he suffered eight hypertensive crises within ten days.
These crises occurred while he was asleep.
Despite these life-threatening episodes, his blood pressure medication was not provided regularly.
In 2004, he suffered a nosebleed that continued uninterrupted for four days because of his extremely high blood pressure.
His blood pressure could only be reduced to 22, or approximately 220 mmHg systolic, even after he was given medication under the tongue.
He was told that the nosebleed had acted as a safety valve and that otherwise he could have suffered a stroke or died.
It was only after this extremely serious incident that his blood pressure medication began to be provided regularly.
ISOLATION
Between 2000 and 2006, Ali Osman Köse was held alone in prison, without seeing anyone.
HIS OTHER ILLNESSES
Ali Osman Köse was also imprisoned during the military junta that came to power in 1980.
During his long period of imprisonment, including his uninterrupted detention from 1994 to 2026, amounting to a total of 42 years behind bars, he developed numerous other health problems.
These include:
• Diabetes
• Dizziness
• Tinnitus
• Hearing impairment
• Burning sensations and numbness above the knees
• Stomach disorders
• Varicose veins
• Prostate problems
• Haemorrhoids
• Memory loss
• Loss of the ability to walk
• Lumbar disc herniation
• A cyst in the liver
• High cholesterol
• Vitamin D deficiency
CANCER
On 27 February 2021, at the Urology and Surgery Department of Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University, Ali Osman Köse was informed that a nine-centimetre cyst had been detected in his left kidney and that urgent surgery was necessary.
The need for urgent surgery was established on 27 February.
However, the URGENT operation was not carried out until 31 May, three months later.
Fascism deliberately planned to allow the cancer to progress.
Doctors stated that a mass measuring nine centimetres would have required approximately two to four years to develop.
In other words, throughout this period, Ali Osman Köse had repeatedly attended hospitals, prison infirmaries and medical examinations, yet his cancer had not been diagnosed.
Moreover, in July 2020, the Forensic Medicine Institute had issued a report declaring that he was fit to remain in prison.
During this period, Ali Osman Köse was already suffering from kidney cancer, but the authorities concealed it.
From July 2020 until the diagnosis on 27 February 2021, FOR NINE MONTHS, NO CANCER DIAGNOSIS WAS MADE.
During this time, the cancer progressed further.
On 1 February 2021, he was examined again by the Forensic Medicine Institute.
The Forensic Medicine Institute report dated 5 February 2026, signed by ten doctors, also contained no information or findings whatsoever concerning the nine-centimetre cyst in his kidney.
And in 2026, Ali Osman Köse developed lung cancer.
This cancer is metastatic. In other words, it is cancer that has spread from the kidney to the lungs.
Even when a cancer patient recovers from the disease, they remain a cancer patient who requires monitoring throughout the rest of their life.
Regular medical examinations are necessary.
The risk of cancer recurring or metastasising is always present.
This has been established by scientific studies, which have even identified how these risks change over the years.
Statistical research has also made it possible to estimate the life expectancy of cancer patients.
In other words, there is nothing unknown about this.
WHAT EXISTS IS FASCISM’S POLICY OF ANNIHILATION.
WHAT IS CANCER?
Cancer is a disease caused by the uncontrolled and continuous multiplication of cells in a particular organ or part of the body.
Various inherited genetic factors, as well as factors such as smoking, living conditions and working conditions, can cause changes in the structure of normal cells.
Cells whose genetic structure has been altered begin dividing and multiplying uncontrollably.
Cancer causes damage to the structure and functioning of tissues or organs.
The body’s immune system plays an important role in fighting cancer cells.
However, this defence is not always sufficient.
In Ali Osman Köse’s case, cancer developed and progressed because of torture, the failure to provide medical treatment, the withholding of medication, the refusal to take him to hospital and the conditions of isolation.
WHAT IS METASTASIS?
Cancer can spread to other parts of the body and continue to progress.
This is called metastasis.
WHAT ARE THE METHODS OF TREATMENT?
Different medicines and treatment methods can be used for cancer, depending on the organ affected.
However, the main methods of cancer treatment are based on established medical approaches and protocols.
The principal treatment methods used for cancer patients include:
- Surgery
- Chemotherapy
- Radiotherapy
- Immunotherapy
- Stem cell and bone marrow transplantation
- Hormone therapy
- Antibody therapy
- Stem cell therapy
THESE ARE ESTABLISHED METHODS OF TREATMENT.
The appropriate treatment is determined by considering the stage of the cancer, the location of the tumour, the patient’s age, other medical conditions and additional factors.
Where possible, surgery may be preferred.
Following surgery, chemotherapy may be administered to destroy cancer cells that might have spread to other parts of the body.
Radiotherapy is a method of treating cancer through the use of ionising radiation.
Its objective is to destroy tumour tissue while protecting surrounding healthy tissue.
Radiotherapy can be used on its own or in combination with surgery and/or chemotherapy.
Immunotherapy strengthens or activates the body’s natural immune system, enabling immune cells to fight cancer.
Stem cell therapy is a method involving the use of stem cells to treat or prevent a disease or condition.
Hormone therapy, or hormonal treatment, involves the use or regulation of hormones in medical treatment.
One of its purposes is to suppress hormones that stimulate the growth of certain cancers.
A PRISONER HAS VIRTUALLY NO ACCESS TO THESE TREATMENTS!
IMPRISONMENT IS THE DENIAL OF THE RIGHT TO LIFE.
FOR THIS REASON, ALİ OSMAN KÖSE MUST BE RELEASED!
ALİ OSMAN KÖSE MUST BE RELEASED IMMEDIATELY UNDER ARTICLE 16 OF THE LAW ON THE EXECUTION OF SENTENCES!
The Law on the Execution of Sentences states that prisoners who cannot sustain their lives independently in their cells and who do not have access to appropriate treatment conditions may have the execution of their sentences postponed until they recover.
ALİ OSMAN KÖSE MUST BE RELEASED IMMEDIATELY!
WE WANT HIS FREEDOM, NOT HIS COFFIN!
LEGAL NOTE
Article 16 of the Law on the Execution of Sentences and Security Measures provides for the postponement of the execution of sentences on medical grounds where a prisoner’s illness poses a definite danger to their life, as established by a report issued by the Forensic Medicine Institute or by the medical board of a fully equipped hospital designated by the Ministry of Justice and approved by the Forensic Medicine Institute.
